I had the pleasure of working with LH4, LH5, LH6, LH7, Wai Māori and Moutere this term. We learnt about Vinta, colourful outrigger boats from the Philippines which have distinctive geometric woven sails. Drawing inspiration from these beautiful boats, learners made their own multimedia artworks using photocopied Filipino weavings to collage the sails. OrmPS artists also enjoyed a variety of picture books telling stories about Filipino culture.
We continued our learning about beads from Aotearoa and around the world, and learners enjoyed creating their own. This term OrmPS staff joined the fun, making their own clay beads from orange or green clay. Now everyone has a bead representing their presence in our kura in Ormiston Primary’s 10th year, we look forward to seeing the finished artwork!
OrmPS artists understand the importance of using their imagination, so we filled our spare moments by engaging our creativity in imaginative drawings, games and storytelling.
Hauora was a topic of discussion for Moutere learners, we talked about practical things we can do to keep us feeling happy and healthy. Such as spending time in nature, keeping active, breathing exercises and making art. We enjoyed the calm of drawing ink mandalas.
Ka pai ō koutou mahi OrmPS artists!
