Education Outside the Habitat/Trips and Excursions
Learning experiences that occur outside of the habitat are very much encouraged at our school and we believe that learning takes place everywhere. EOTC programmes provide learners across all year groups, with access to hands-on experiences that are not always available inside the Habitat. They offer unique and stimulating learning opportunities that support a child’s learning and achievement. Many Learning Coaches at Ormiston Primary School use these experiences to stimulate interest or to support the engagement of the learners in any given context.
All EOTC trips and excursions are approved in advance with school policy, documentation and procedures followed so that all health and safety risks are carefully considered and managed. Most parents and caregivers have given ‘blanket’ permission when their child starts school for all trips and excursions within the school grounds and for short visits in the local community within school hours. All families are notified of any trip in advance through our school communication app Hero and given the option of whether their child attends.
Each year the Year 6s do a four-day long camp and this is very much a tradition at OrmPS! Here the learners are engaged in a variety of outdoor learning experiences to enhance their mental, social and physical development. It is always a hi-light of the school year for those learners that attend and camp is enjoyed by everyone, old and young.
